Michelle Huang

Michelle Huang is an award-winning freelance flutist and educator located in the Los Angeles area. She began her formal music studies at 13 and quickly became a recipient of numerous awards in both solo and chamber music competitions. 

Michelle won the UCLA All-Star Concerto Competition in 2013, was runner up in 2012, and was runner up in the 2013 UCLA Atwater Kent Concerto Competition. Ms. Huang was the only woodwind finalist to represent the USC Thornton School of Music in the 30th annual Pasadena Showcase for the Arts Instrumental Competition, in which she won 2nd prize. 

She is also a Young Musicians Foundation David Weiss Scholar, a title she earned through winning the top award in the 2015 Mu Phi Epsilon Los Angeles Alumni Chapter–Phyllis Hausman Loeb Memorial Scholarship, Collegiate Winds Division. Ms. Huang also advanced as a finalist in the 2016 Young Musicians Foundation Concerto Competition, and has performed with the prestigious Music Academy of the West orchestra. 

Michelle served as flute faculty at the Colburn Jumpstart Program from 2016-2019, and teaches both flute and music theory at the Los Angeles Conservatory of Music. She has coached various chamber music groups for Junior Chamber Music, and was a guest chamber music coach for the Woodwind Chamber Music at UCLA. Additionally, Ms. Huang maintains an active private studio in the greater Los Angeles area. 

Michelle received her Bachelor of Arts degree from University of California, Los Angeles, where she studied with Sheridon Stokes. She earned a Master of Music degree in Flute Performance at the University of Southern California Thornton School of Music, under internationally recognized pedagogue James Walker.
